Energy Subcommittee Announces Markup of Pipeline Safety Legislation

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bobby Rush (D-IL) announced today that the Energy Subcommittee will hold a markup on Wednesday, June 26, at 10 am in the John D. Dingell Room, 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building to mark up H.R. 3432, the Safer Pipelines Act of 2019.

“With more than three million miles of pipeline transporting oil and gas throughout the country – often right beneath our feet – we have a responsibility to ensure that those pipelines are as safe as possible. This Subcommittee markup takes a crucial step toward fulfilling that responsibility,” Pallone and Rush said. “This bill would make several critical changes to improve the federal pipeline safety program, helping to save lives and protect property and the environment.”

The Subcommittee will consider the following bill:

H.R. 3432, the Safer Pipelines Act of 2019, introduced by Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bobby Rush, would reauthorize the federal pipeline safety program through fiscal year 2023 at increased funding levels, remove duplicative and unnecessary cost benefit analysis requirements, and improve program enforcement.
