Chairman Neal Marks 56th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement marking the 56th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson signing Medicare and Medicaid into law:

“For more than half a century, Medicare and Medicaid have helped millions of Americans afford their health care needs and enjoy greater financial security. From seniors who have paid into the system over a lifetime, to people living with disabilities, Medicare and Medicaid enable access to quality health care. These programs are essential for our nation’s success, and the pandemic has only highlighted their importance. Ways and Means Committee Democrats are committed to strengthening these lifelines and ensuring they continue to provide coverage for many generations of Americans to come.”
