(WASHINGTON) – Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announcing it has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) in which the MSPB has agreed to review adverse action appeals from screening workforce employees. This follows Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas’ announcement in June which highlighted steps the Biden Administration would take to improve the TSA workforce, including expanding collective bargaining rights, improving Transportation Security Officer (TSO) pay, and providing processes for appealing disciplinary actions.
“I commend the Biden Administration for taking action and following up on its commitment to improve the TSA workforce. I have long been a champion of ensuring TSA’s workforce is afforded the same rights – including MSPB rights – as other Federal employees. TSA’s Transportation Security Officers not only work around the clock to protect our homeland, but have also been working the frontlines non-stop since the COVID-19 pandemic began. With this major progress, I will continue my engagement with the Administration and the Senate to ensure we pass H.R. 903, the Rights for the TSA Workforce Act, to codify these changes into law.”
