Washington, D.C. – Kentucky Congressman John Yarmuth, Chairman of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement on the release of the 2019 reports from the trustees for Medicare and Social Security:
“Medicare & Social Security are paramount to the economic and health security of our nation’s seniors. Today’s reports from the Social Security and Medicare Boards of Trustees confirm both programs remain solvent for the immediate future, but warn that our aging population will eventually require additional resources.
“As the Chairman of the Budget Committee, we plan to examine these and other issues important to Americans’ retirement security. I hope to lay the groundwork for policies that will promote economic growth, increase revenues, reduce health care costs, and ensure our nation’s seniors have the secure retirement we have promised, and that they worked a lifetime to earn.”
