Davis Statement on Briefing with USCP Inspector General Bolton

Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today released this statement after being briefed by United States Capitol Police Inspector General Michael Bolton on the office’s report regarding January 6th:

“It’s clear from the beginning that the events surrounding the attack on January 6th and the situation our officers were put in was a failure of proper preparation, training and command control. Now we’ve have two Capitol Police IG work products that have confirmed that and made recommendations on how to fix it. It’s time to get to work,” said Davis. “Both General Honoré and IG Bolton have said there needs to be drastic changes to how security is managed at the Capitol. Now, it’s our job to start addressing these issues. It’s been exactly three months since the attack on our Capitol and this committee has yet to hold a single hearing on this issue. The Senate is working in a bipartisan way to address security and the House should be doing the same. If we do not, it will be another failure of leadership. These changes are going to take time to implement, but nothing can be done until we do our work. The men and women serving in the U.S. Capitol Police deserve at least that much.”
