Granger on Democrats’ Second Appropriations Package

WASHINGTON – Top Appropriations Committee Republican Kay Granger (R-TX) issued the following statement after the House passed the Democrats’ second appropriations package, H.R. 7617, which includes the fiscal year 2021 (FY21) funding bills for Defense; Commerce, Justice, and Science; Energy and Water Development; Financial Services and General Government; Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education; and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bills. All Republicans present opposed the measure.

“The bills in the package passed today are particularly disappointing because they give in to the voices that want to defund the police, encourage illegal immigration, and reverse pro-life policies. These bills jeopardize our nation’s safety and security, and they trample upon the rights and freedoms of the American people.

“While these bills support many important programs, there were too many fatal flaws that made them unacceptable. These provisions must be reversed when these bills are finalized. That is the only way we will be able to produce bipartisan bills that the President can and will sign into law.

“As the House winds down its work on the FY21 bills, I am disappointed by both the process that got us here and the product that was produced. The Appropriations Committee has a strong tradition of working together and seeking consensus where we can.

“Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for the annual funding bills that moved through the Committee and the House floor over the last month. Democrats walked away from a bipartisan budget agreement that was made just last year and jammed through partisan messaging bills that will add to our skyrocketing national debt. “
