WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Adam Smith (D-Wash.), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, today released the following schedule of public events for the week of March 22 – 26.
 
Subcommittee on Readiness Hearing: “Learning From and Preventing Future Training Mishaps”
Tuesday, March 23, 2021

Purpose: The subcommittee will receive testimony from the services on aviation, ground, and at-sea mishaps and what actions the services are taking to mitigate the risks and causal factors in an effort to reduce likelihood of training mishaps occurring.

Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations Hearing: “SOF Culture and Climate: The Future of the Force”
Friday, March 26, 2021
(11:00 a.m. ET – Virtual via Webex – Open)
 
Purpose: The subcommittee will receive testimony from outside experts on the state of special operations forces culture and climate while exploring means to shape the force for future demands of great power competition. The subcommittee will consider the impacts of historic operational tempo and diversity challenges while focusing on three critical themes: the current state of the force following two decades of countering terrorism, the comprehensive health of the force, and future opportunities for the force in support of U.S. national security objectives.

Friday, March 26, 2021

Purpose: An unclassified hearing with representatives from each of the military services to discuss lessons learned from Winter Storm Uri and other extreme weather events for installation resiliency. The witnesses will also provide an update on the implementation of energy and extreme weather resiliency measures from the last four NDAAs.
