LaMalfa: Responsible Forest Management More Important Than Ever

Washington, D.C. – Today, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) delivered a memorandum to the United States Forest Service as it works to modernize the management of national forests and grasslands. House Agriculture Committee’s Conservation and Forestry Subcommittee Ranking Member Doug LaMalfa (CA-1) released the following remarks of support in response:

“For too long, our federally owned forests have been poorly managed, resulting in increased fire risk that has devastated neighboring lands and towns. Reducing fire risk requires real action, and a pace and scale of work that makes a difference. We need forest productivity, as well as access, for Americans to enjoy their public lands. I applaud today’s memorandum from Secretary Perdue, one that makes important changes to current forest management practices, including streamlining their environmental review process, that will inevitably improve overall forest health and safety. As we enter fire season, responsible forest management is more important than ever. I thank the Trump Administration for continuing to make good on their promise to improve public lands.”
