WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY-17) today issued the following statement after President Trump signed H.R. 4378, a continuing resolution to extend federal government funding through Nov. 21 and avoid a government shutdown at the end of the month:
“I am pleased this continuing resolution will keep government open, prevent another devastating shutdown, and allow additional time to negotiate long-term funding for critical priorities.
“To allow us to quickly conference appropriations bills, the President and Senate Republicans must drop their extreme demands for border wall funding. Working families are counting on us to enact responsible bills that make our country safer and stronger and fund important priorities, not a wasteful wall.”
H.R. 4378 passed the House on September 19 on a bipartisan 301 to 123 vote and cleared the Senate on September 26 by a vote of 81 to 16.
