Lowey Statement on Congressman Pete Visclosky’s Decision to Not Seek Re-Election

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey (D-NY-17) released the following statement after Congressman Pete Visclosky announced his retirement at the end of the 116th Congress:

“Congressman Pete Visclosky is a valued colleague and one of the most respected voices on the Appropriations Committee.

“As Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, Congressman Visclosky has made his mark as a champion for the women and men of our Armed Forces, and a supporter of a robust mix of defense, diplomacy, and development to keep our nation safe and strong. He has been a fierce advocate for his Northwest Indiana district, working tirelessly for the steel industry, organized labor, and local transportation projects.

“I am grateful for Congressman Visclosky’s service and his friendship. As he begins a new chapter, Pete and his family have my very best wishes.”
