Washington, D.C.– Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the December 6th terrorist attack at the Pensacola Naval Air Station and the DOJ briefing held today.

“The Department of Justice determined the December 6, 2019 attack at the Pensacola Naval Air Station was as an act of terrorism. I appreciate the Administration’s diligent response to this tragedy. Thus far, the findings of the DOJ investigation are alarming and plainly call into question the adequacy of our vetting process requirements for foreign nationals attending international military training in the United States.

“The families and friends of the three American sailors killed, and the eight others who were injured, likely never imagined such an attack could occur in our homeland, on a U.S. military base, during classroom training. Congress has an obligation to conduct aggressive oversight of these vetting policies and processes. We must ensure the flaws identified are properly addressed so that there is never another attack like this on American soil. We must always be vigilant in keeping Americans safe.”
