Recently, the Partnership for Public Service released the 2020 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings. And, for the ninth consecutive year, the Department of Commerce remained in the Top 5 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government ranking fifth among 17 large agencies.
The results were based on the annual 2020 Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) sent to 37,247 eligible Commerce employees (non-political, non-seasonal, full-time/part-time, permanent, onboard as of October 2019) from September 21–November 2, 2020, to which 57 percent (21,310) of Commerce employees responded.
“While the Department had major strengths and made significant improvements since 2019, we remain committed to continue to improve and will review this year’s results and future feedback to identify opportunities on how we can make the Department the best place to work for you,” said Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
The latest ranking represents a 5.3 percentage point increase in the Partnership for Public Service’s overall Engagement score (from 69.6 in 2019 to 74.9 in 2020), making it clear that majority of the Department’s employees continue to recommend it as a good place to work and are satisfied with their job and organization. Commerce also ranked second in the new COVID overall category (90.9 score), which measures the extent to which employees feel their organization supported their mental and physical well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic, provided the resources they needed to do their work, had leaders who communicated effectively and prioritized their welfare, and successfully delivered on their mission.
“The 2020 Best Places to Work data paints a picture of agencies that demonstrated agility and found creative ways for employees to successfully deliver on their missions in mostly remote settings while giving them the flexibility to meet their personal needs,” said Max Stier, the president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service.
The Best Places to Work in the Federal Government rankings are produced by the Partnership for Public Service—a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to improving the effectiveness of government and to the idea that government is most effective when it has an engaged workforce, strong leaders and the information to make smart decisions.
