WASHINGTON, D.C. – Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines today issued the following statement on the passing of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright:

 

“We have lost an extraordinary leader of substance, style, and conviction with the passing of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Her legacy lives on in the men and women she inspired and mentored over the years in national security and foreign policy, myself included. I hope we can do her justice. Her integrity, pragmatism, and intellect lives on in the institutions she enriched throughout her lifetime of service in government, academia, and non-governmental organizations.”

On behalf of the Intelligence Community, we thank Secretary Albright for her devotion to America and our enduring work to stand for freedom over repression and Democracy over Authoritarianism. We send our condolences to her family and hope that the everlasting imprint she leaves on history brings comfort in this difficult time.”
