Grassley Attends White House USMCA Signing Ceremony

January 29,2020

Washington – Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley
(R-Iowa), a family farmer, today attended a White House signing ceremony led by
President Donald Trump for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)
Implementation Act.

Trump campaigned on a promise to modernize our trade relationship with Canada
and Mexico. He kept his promise. This updated agreement opens up new market
access for made-in-America products. That means thousands of new jobs and a
level playing field for U.S. farmers and manufacturers. It also creates strong
protections and opportunities for American workers and innovators. The digital
trade provisions in particular will guide the future of U.S. trade policy in
the 21st century. The ratification of USMCA demonstrates President Trump’s
credibility on trade and strengthens our hand when negotiating further trade
agreements with countries like China. All told, USMCA means more jobs, higher
wages, a stronger economy and a brighter future for our country,” Grassley

next step is for Canada to ratify USMCA. I support Prime Minister Trudeau’s
objective to ratify USMCA ‘as quickly as possible.’ Once Canada has ratified
the agreement, the Trump administration will work with Canada and Mexico to
ensure all parties will be able to carry out their USMCA obligations so the
agreement can enter into force.”
